Preseason Conditioning

Preseason conditioning has been going on for three weeks now.
You must have your physical to participate.
This week we added Wednesday afternoons to the mix.
The schedule is as follows:
Tues. In room conditioning 2:45-4:00PM
Wed. Open Mats 2:45-4:00PM
Thurs. Weight training 2:45-4:00PM

Euclid Sports Hall-of-Fame 2010

Congratulations to Euclid's newest inductees to the Euclid Sports Hall-of-Fame!
Eight new members were inducted last night at the Manor in Euclid. Of those eight, four were wrestlers. Very impressive.

Tim Moriarty- c/o 1980 wrestled at Central Junior High School, for coach Harry King Sr., before he became a Euclid's first Parade All-American for the Panther football team.

Shawn Thompson- c/o 1993 three year letter-winner in wrestling for Coach Tim D'Anna. As a senior he qualified for the state tournament as a heavyweight. Also that senior year, Shawn was Sectional champ and District fourth place, while earning all-GCC honors and serving as captain. For his efforts he was selected as Euclid's Most Outstanding Athlete for the Class of 1993.

Harry King Sr.- Coach was a winner. Either in junior or senior high schol. Whatever the sport or activity, from football to basketball, tennis to golf, chess to volleyball, and of course wrestling. The records in his coaching career speak for themselves. Girl's volleyball 19-3, boys tennis 50-10, Jr. High JV Wrestling 107-16, Junior High Wrestling 105-13-1. His six year reign at the High School resulted in a 56-23-1 record, including our last league championship and a state champion (Jack DeBoe) in 1986.

Tim Baur- c/o 1967 Lifetime Achievement Award As a wrestler at Euclid, Tim was a standout in the lower weights. He placed high at the Brecksville Holiday Tournament (the oldest continuously run holiday tournament in the country) and at the sectional and district tournaments. He also won five county YMCA wrestling championships during his career. He continued wrestling at the college level at Cleveland State University. However, Tim is most known for the tremendous difference he has made in the lives of the over 8000 wrestlers that he has reached through the Euclid Jaycee Wrestling program. Two have had tryouts for the U.S. Olympic team with one participating in the last games in Beijing. Three other former wrestlers are current coaches of wrestling programs around the area. In 2004, the City of Euclid showed its appreciation when Mayor Bill Cervenik made Feb. 7th Tim Baur Day.

Ohio State vs. Michigan

First Home Match

Tonight is the first home match of the 2009/2010 wrestling season. NDCL and John Marshall will be arriving to do battle with our Panthers. Weigh-ins will be at 5:00 PM and wrestling will start at 6:00 PM. John Marshall will go against NDCL in the first match, followed by NDCL and Euclid, before finishing with John Marshall and Euclid. Ledgemont will also be represented by 3 wrestlers so that they can get some matches. Good Luck Panthers!

Maple Heights, Glenville, Admiral King

Friday night was a walk in the park compared to the battle we had on Saturday night. We took on always tough Maple Heights first on Senior Night, where they soundly handed us a 62-15 defeat. The bright spot was that we avoided state champion Kory Mines and that we won 3 of 7 matches. Next, Admiral King took their turn in beating us 60-13. Last up was Glenville who got by us with a 37-14 win. We were down to 7 wrestlers in these duals, so giving up 7 classes and 42 points helped the lopsided team scores.
The Panthers are next in action at the Geneva T.K. Duals at 10:00 AM this Saturday.

Wickliffe, Mentor B

This past weekend the wrestling team took another one on the chin with two tight losses to Wickliffe 35-30 and Mentor B 38-33. The team fought hard but the 6 forfeits once again haunted us. If some of the matches went the other way we would have came out on top. We won 5 of 8 matches versus Wickliffe, and 4 of 6 matches against Mentor. With that many forfeits those results are something to build on for us. We can't do anything about the forfeits now, but we have to win the matches we do wrestle.

Perry Pin City Tournament

The team finished a disappointing 16th out of 18 teams. The tournament was postponed due to snow on Friday. On Saturday, they ran the whole thing through. Unfortunately, we did not know if we were competing until 8 at night. By that time many of the wrestlers had eaten and were overweight. With others I was not able to contact them by phone. This led to only 6 wrestlers making the bus on Saturday. Usually, when school is canceled on Friday, all weekend activities are canceled. This threw us for a loop and the results show it. However, Rynell Roper continues his hot streak with a runner-up finish once again. Zak Adkins finished in 5th, Dylan Norwood 7th, David Cozart 9th, Darsheed Mustafa 10th and Noah Brown 14th.
